Here are some common issues associated with wireless mice and some quick steps on how to deal with it.
Rapid loss of battery power
- This is a very common wireless mouse issue. Some users would experience that the batteries would quickly drain its power, even if it has been fully charged. It is recommended to consult your manual or contact the manufacturer to get important information on choosing the right batteries and how to take care of them properly.
Reconnect the device with the receiver
- Sometimes the device would lose its connection to the receiver abruptly. There are many ways to fix this minor issue.
- Push the receiver button to resynchronize the device. It’s a small button that can be found either on the mouse or from the receiver.
- Turn off the mouse for at least a minute, then turn it back ON.
- Unplug and re-attach the receiver from the USB port.
Use different ports
- Most wireless mice use a USB dongle, but some manufacturers include a PS/2 adapter for older computers.
- Transfer the USB receiver to other available ports to determine whether the usual USB port you’re using is defective.
- PS/2 connections are quite different compared to USB connections. One of the main differences between them is that the PC doesn’t need to reboot when attaching a USB device, unlike the PS/2. It is important to ensure that the PC is turned off first, then remove the USB dongle and then utilize the PS/2 connection.
Re-insert the batteries
- When rebooting the mouse, it’s good practice to remove the batteries for a couple of seconds before inserting them back. Using the power button or just switching off the mouse will usually not provide a positive outcome in the future.
